Data Protection and Availability

EMC’s Data Protection and Availability (formerly known as Recovery Management) Division contains EMC’s backup and archive portfolio, including Avamar, Data Domain, Data Protection Advisor, Disk Library for mainframe, Mozy, NetWorker, SourceOne and, as of 2014, RecoverPoint continuous data protection (CDP). EMC has been successful with its Data Domain and Avamar backup appliances, which still account for the bulk of the sales for this division. In 2013, EMC introduced the EMC Data Protection Suite, which offers a capacity-based license for EMC backup software. Also available in a capacity-based bundle is the SourceOne archiving portfolio, which is integrated with Data Domain.
EMC’s strategy has been simple, but effective: Acquire transformational technologies, create compelling marketing campaigns, and leverage bundling opportunities with what Gartner believes is the largest storage sales and field engineering force. EMC has capitalized on and influenced market trends, resulting in a recovery portfolio that Gartner estimates will generate more than $4.0 billion in 2014. Clients should push EMC and monitor progress in 2014 for continued product integration, as well as for more enhanced snapshot and replication capabilities.
